Music Monday’s: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong

Folks, please welcome the band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong to Music Monday’s. Yes, you read that correctly, that is the name of the band. The name, taken out of a Psychology textbook of rhythm guitarist and frontman Greg Ormont, is indicative of the band’s overall philosophy–they are all about fun(k).

Starting as a dorm project with Ormont and Jeremy Schon at the University of Maryland, Pigeons, as the band is affectionately nicknamed, put out their first EP in 2010 and have been touring ever since. It is through touring that Pigeons have built up such a large following-dubbed “The Flock”- the band is noted for their extensive tours, often on the road for 200 or so days a year.

High energy funk with hilarious stage presence/audience interaction and a catalog of great covers is a great combination, and Pigeons keeps this funky party going with every city they visit.

With a consistently full touring schedule, three full length albums, a full EP, and a live album, these guys work. Their most recent album, Pizzaz, came out on October 20.

Worth the listen, as is their first full length album, Psychology.

Be sure to check these fine feathered friends out on any social media/listening platforms, and have a fantastic week!!
